About the Craft behind this Pure Parshi Katan Banarasi Silk Saree

This saree finds its origin in the historic looms of Varanasi(Banaras), where the art of weaving has been perfected over decades. It is woven in the honored Parshi style, a style distinguished by its dense, close-knit designs. This creates an almost full appearance, making the fabric stand out and look richly decorated.

This particular style was born when the Parsis settled in the Indian subcontinent. Their love and encouragement of the Indian textiles gave birth to a striking fusion of- Persian motifs with the Banarasi weaving process.

The use of Katan silk, a hallmark of authentic Banarasi sarees, is prized for its durability, structure, and signature subtle sheen. Katan is a robust silk thread made by twisting two silk yarns that results in a very sturdy and long lasting fabric.

Taking all this a notch higher is the exclusivity of the Meenakari craft in the Banarsi weaving process. An age old technique- here colored threads are intricately and laboriously hand-woven into the zari motifs, appearing like enamel work on gold. Meenakari is a heavily labor-intensive and time-consuming process as each colour is hand-woven with precision.

This combination of Katan silk, dense Parshi weaving, and Meenakari detailing results in a saree that is not just an outfit, but a piece of wearable art, designed to be treasured and passed down through generations.

Customer reviews

The colour is exactly what I wanted for a family wedding. The mustard is very rich, not dull at all, and the red border makes it look very traditional. I wore it for a puja and everyone kept asking where it was from.-Anjali Verma

I was worried the colour might look too bright, but it’s actually very balanced. The marigold tone looks beautiful in daylight and the red pallu really stands out in the evening. -Neha Kulkarni

The colours of this saree reminds me of temple festivals and weddings back home. The zari work is neat and doesn’t look flashy. I paired it with a plain red blouse and it looked perfect.- Sushma Iyer
