Staples

Indian & Asian Food Staples – Delivered to Your Door

Food Staples – The Foundation of Every Indian Kitchen

Rice, atta, oils, ghee, and spices are a basic part of daily life and hence referred to as Staple Foods. They are the building blocks that build your daily meals and those weekend special spreads. We can also call them staple diet foods, as meals start with them.

Since these are the staple foods you’re feeding your family, quality isn’t just a preference; it’s everything. This is where we must never underestimate its quality.

You shouldn’t have to guess about the purity of your turmeric or the age of your rice or its origin. We only stock factory-sealed, trusted brands that families have used for generations. No repacking, no mystery labels, just honest-to-goodness authentic ingredients.

Everything here comes in original, factory-sealed packaging. No repacking, no shortcuts. Just proper staples of food, the way they’re meant to be used.

What you’ll find in our Staples range

If you’ve ever cooked Indian food at home, you already know that everything depends on the basics.

Not the fancy recipes. Not the plating. Just the everyday things. Navigating the world of staples of indian cuisine? The rice, the oil, the atta, the ghee. These are your real staple food items. The kind you don’t even think about buying, you just make sure they’re always there. Here’s a quick look at what’s currently sitting in our “cupboard” for you:

  • Rice & Grains – This is where most meals begin. Plain rice, khichdi, pulao, simple food, but essential. From that extra-long Shakti XXL Basmati to specialized grains for everyday meals, these are the ultimate food staples.
  • Ghee & Oils – Dabur’s classic cow ghee and cold-pressed sesame oil are cooking staples. We have what carries all those beautiful Indian flavors. Used in almost everything, from cooking to finishing dishes. A core part of indian cooking staples.
  • Flours (Atta) – Needed for bread, rotis and parathas. This is one of those staple diet foods you run out of and immediately feel it. We have stone-ground regular atta and specialised options like the Diabetic Care atta.
  • Spices – Pure turmeric powder that’s vibrant, earthy, and essential for every tadka. Even basic meals need them. Without spices, food just feels incomplete.
  • Sweeteners (like jaggery) – Madhuram Jaggery Powder. Deep, rich sweetness and more nutrient-rich than any refined white sugar. Used in making sweets and sometimes even in everyday cooking. A more traditional alternative when you want something sweet.

It’s not a long list. But without these, cooking Indian food doesn’t really work.

Brands we carry — and why we chose them

We don’t just grab any staples off a shelf. We have names that have earned their spot through decades of consistency. They usually stick to what they trust.

Take Dabur. It’s been around for generations. A lot of people grew up seeing it in their kitchens. Founded back in 1884, their ghee and oils are known to be reliable – not something that changes every time you buy it. They were the pioneers of tying Ayurveda to modern health in India. Their ghee and virgin coconut oil aren’t just products; they are heritage.

Then there’s Patanjali. They put nature first in every household and disrupted the entire market. Their Shakti XXL rice and fortified oils are household favorites because people know the quality is stable. These aren’t generic items that you find at a discount store. It focuses on simple, everyday products that people actually use – atta, ghee, oils. All their products lean towards natural formulations.  A major reason for it gaining a massive footprint in a very short time.

Their diabetic atta gained quite a bit of popularity. Especially with people who are a bit more conscious about what they eat.

These are brands people recognize. And when it comes to staples of indian cuisine, familiarity matters more than anything else.

How to store your staples

To keep your indian cooking staples tasting as fresh to the last bite, storing them properly is a must. Storing your daily staples is as important as ensuring their quality. You buy the best and then leave it lying around without proper storage, can spoil it. Here are tips to retain their freshness for a long time and keep them tasting as delicious to the last bite.

  1. Ghee: Use a dry spoon for your ghee ! Remember this as a rule. A small bit of moisture will spoil a whole jar of your ghee. No need to refrigerate it. But storing it in a cool, dark and dry place is recommended.
  2. Oils: Oils are sturdier and don’t spoil easily. Oils are just sensitive to heat so just keep them away someplace thats cool and moisture proof.  Keeping the cap/lid closed after use is a healthy practice.
  3. Rice & Atta: Once you open your bag of atta, move it to a solid, airtight container. It helps in keeping the moisture and those pesky pantry bugs away.
  4. Spices & Jaggery: Jaggery is basically a sponge for moisture and spices lose their flavour and aroma if exposed. Keeping the lid secure and tight on your jaggery powder will prevent it from turning into a giant, sticky brick that will take effort to break!

The part of storing is usually ignored, but this helps. These small things, if you follow and keep in mind, will help your staple foods last longer while staying fresh.

Nutritional highlights worth knowing

A lot of people now look at the health side of their staple diet foods, and it makes sense.

  • Ghee: The healthy fats and butyric acid in Ghee makes it excellent for brain health while helping your body absorb fat soluble vitamins from your food. Ghee also supports digestion. Using a good quality ghee and in moderation, is the key.
  • Turmeric: Turmeric has curcumin, which is an anti-inflammatory and mild pain reliever. It helps reduce swelling in the body. It also helps to boost your immune system and keep your skin healthy.
  • Jaggery: Made from sugarcane plant, this is a much healthier pick than white sugar. It is less processed and retains its minerals like iron, giving you a more natural energy boost.
  • Diabetic Atta: Diabetic atta is a special mix which has a lower GI. It’s packed with extra fiber to keep you feeling full for longer. It is a mix of grains to help manage blood sugar better.
  • Basmati Rice: The long grained rice. This rice is a great source of energy to keep you going all day. It’s naturally low in fat and easy for your stomach to digest.
  • Sunflower Oil: Sunflower oil has Vitamin A and D to support your eyes and bone health. It’s light on the heart and great for everyday healthy cooking.
  • Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is great for a quick energy boost and supports a healthy metabolism. It’s also famous for keeping your hair shiny and your skin very soft.
  • Sesame Oil: This oil is rich in antioxidants and “good fats”. It takes care of your heart. It also contains calcium, which helps in keeping your bones strong.

These are everyday food staples, but they do not just fill you up. They are fuel for your body and mind.

Why provenance matters for staples

What are staple foods if they aren’t pure? Unfortunately, items like turmeric, ghee, and oils are often targets for adulteration in the wider market. We cannot close our eyes to this uncomfortable truth. Turmeric, ghee, and cooking oils sit right at the top of the list for food adulteration globally. It happens because these are high-demand, high-volume products – and that makes them a target.

This is why we are completely stubborn about one thing – we only carry factory-sealed, original-manufacturer stock. What Patanjali or Dabur sealed at their facility is what arrives at your door. We don’t repack. We don’t relabel. We don’t touch the product. You get exactly what the brand made, nothing added, nothing swapped. Pure, simple, and something you should never have to worry about.

Frequently asked questions

Is Patanjali Diabetic Atta suitable for people with Type 2 diabetes?

Patanjali Diabetic Atta is a mix of special grains designed to have a lower Glycemic Index. Low glycemic index foods do not spike blood sugar levels. So yes this atta is specially formulated for Type 2 diabetes.

What’s the difference between pure cow ghee and 100% pure cow ghee (box)?

There is no difference. Both are pure; only packaging and sourcing details may vary. It usually comes down to the processing method. The boxed version often follows a more traditional, high-purity method of extracting ghee that people prefer for specific diets or religious rituals. Both are fantastic, but the box is often seen as the “premium”.

Why is the price higher than what I’d pay in India?

These indian cooking staples are imported and then delivered to your doorstep. So pricing includes shipping, duties, taxes, customs and handling. What you’re paying for is convenience and authenticity of the products, too. We guarantee high quality authentic company sealed items.

How are the oils packaged for shipping? Do they leak?

They are packed securely in “transit-proof packaging” with protective layers to prevent leakage during transit. Everything is bubble-wrapped and packed in heavy-duty boxes. We want your food staples to reach you in perfect condition, not leaking!
